The Unfinished Novel (New Poem) 11/24/12

How hard can it be?  I thought to myself as I write down a sentence, a word, an idea, some sort of plot, a meaningful conflict, character names, places, and so forth.  Yeah, sure I can write a novel, no problem.

What the hell was I thinking!!
It's been about a year since I started writing this so called novel and so far I haven't even completed a whole chapter yet....WTF!!  (Note to self:  I need to get off my ass and start writing more.)

Better Than Christmas (New Poem) 10/15/12

Four orange uncarved pumpkins and a happy scarecrow decorate the small front porch outside.  The leaves are just about to change color.  Halloween candy has yet to be bought (it's a little bit too early for that).  But soon, so very, very, very soon it will time for that creepy spooky night called Halloween once again.  In a way Halloween is a lot better than Christmas.  For instance once you get to a certain age Christmas kind of loses some of it's magic.  Not all of it of course but a little bit of it.  Halloween on the other hand the magic only increases.  For example as a kid you walk around the neighborhood dressed up in a costume and ask for candy in a joyful chorus of "Trick or Treat".  Then as you get older say middle school or high school age you may not go out trick or treating anymore but you may indulge in some light-hearted mischief....and let's not forget about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".  After that you go on to college and attend Halloween parties and so on and so on.  The years go by and soon you have kids of your own.  So on their first Halloween you dress up your toddler in a pumpkin outfit and lo and behold you might find yourself dressing up in a costume once again just for the fun of it.  Fast forward 20 or 40 years down the road.  Now you're that elderly man or woman down the street that hands out that old hard candy that nobody really wants.

Stupid Crap (New Poem) 9/29/12

Caught up in the usual daydream.
Waiting for the day when I can just
sit down and not worry about stupid crap.
As I continue to get older,
not sure about the wiser part yet.
I realize that there is always going to be
something to bitch or complain about.

Coming Soon

In the next few days or maybe weeks (depending on how much free time that Jenny* and I have) the Hound Dog Books website will be completely updated with a new design and other cool features that will knock your socks off .
Author's note: I was looking on the web for pics of a computer or something like that to put in this post and in the gazillion pictures of computer images and so fourth for some reason there was a picture of Kermit in a cowboy hat.  So I thought to myself hey why not just put the picture of Kermit in there instead of some boring old picture of a computer.  I'm sure it would grab more attention.  Thanks for reading.  *Jenny Newman is the official and out of this world talented website designer of Hound Dog Books.  Hats off to all the great work that she does, "Thank You".

Ode To Shark Week (New Poem) 8/18/12

Beautiful creatures they are.
Both loved and feared by many.
They haunt our dreams and
sometimes we wake up screaming.
But after all is said and done we do have a choice.
We can always stay out of the water, but we seldom do.
We know the risks but take them anyway.
Even if our deepest fear swims right below us.

Writing A Novel

So far it's going along really slowly.  I thought by now that I would have at least a few chapters done, but all I've got so far is just a few paragraphs.  I'm thinking of just starting over from scratch.  I just need to sit back and gather up all my notes and make time to write and write and write.  So as I stated in an earlier post it's going to take a lot longer to finish the novel than expected and once again, so be it.  Hopefully I will have it done before I turn 40 (hopefully).

Glass of Wine (New Poem) 6/1/12

Full.  Half a glass.
Almost empty.
Just a few more sips.
Now completely empty.
Done.  Gone.  The end.

In My Daughter's Shoes (New Poem) 5/3/12

Sometimes I forget what it's like to be small.
Sometimes I forget what it's like to hear "No!" "No!" "No!" "Stop it!" "Do you want to go to your room!" all the time.
"Just wait until you have kids".  That's what my mom said to me one time when I was getting on her nerves.  Of course I was about 12 or 13 at the time but I think it applies to kids or young adults of all ages.
(Mom you were right)
Sometimes kids can be a pain in the
But for the most part kids are sweet, cute,
and so darn smart.
Sometimes you just sit there in complete
awe at how nice, kind, and lovable they can be.
Sometimes my daughter reminds me of
what it really means to be an adult.
I can't fit into her shoes but she can sure fit into mine.
Sometimes she's more of an adult than I am.
I need to fit into her shoes more often.
I love you so much Lucy Jane Clouse.
Thank you for

Indie Anna Jones (Mini-Blog Essay) 4/29/12

Thank you Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Sean Connery,  and George Lucas, etc. etc.  Okay now that that's out of the way check out this mini-blog essay.  Books by indie authors are on the rise.  With the help of, the Kindle, and independent bookstores such as Back to the Books and others like it, no longer are books published by small independent presses looked down upon by traditional big time publishers.  Instead they are waking up and taking notice as are the mainstream media and the public as well.  Authors and small presses can create websites, blogs, and so much more with just a click of a button.  Indie authors now have more control of their work and not to mention their own success thanks to the internet.  Many first time authors are choosing to self-publish than ever before in recent history.  Are you one of them?  Today show your support by buying a book from your local indie author or visit an independent bookstore the next time you go out shopping.  Or why not surf the web for online independent book stores.  A good place to start would be Back to the Books.  Some of their best selling books include "Allon" by Shawn Lamb, "Dereliction of Duty" by Jon Renaud, "If I Could Be a Zebra" by Zarle Williams, and "Poems That Might Or Might Not Change Your Life" by Charlie Clouse, plus many more.  For a list of their top ten best sellers click here.

What Matters Most (New Poem) 4/24/12

Chanting Hare Krishna in the shower, on the way to work, and early in the morning.
In the end when we pick our lives apart little by little
and piece by piece what in the end do we find?
What in the end matters most?
What in the end, if anything matters most.
That's the million dollar question isn't it.
(What matters most)
Is it love?
Is it family?
Is it happiness?
Is it none or all of the above?
Do we even dare to answer or do we in return
just answer silently.

If Everyday Was A Vacation Day (New Poem) 4/23/12

No Worries.
No School.
No Work.
No Problems.
Sleep in whenever you want.
Stay up as late as you want.
Eat whatever you want.
Drink whatever you want.
Go anywhere that you want.
Sit around and do nothing if you want.
Yes, that would be the life.
Where do I sign up.

Allergies (New Poem) 4/13/12

Nose is constantly running.
It feels dry, stopped up, and sometimes it bleeds.
Not a lot but just a little bit.
(Note to self:  It's okay to freak out just don't pass out)
Head feels a little bit heavy and it's hard to breath out of one nostril.  Feel like crap, just want to uh, oh.
Have . . .ah ah AHCHOO!
(Stupid allergies)

Sometimes I Do (New Poem) 3/28/12

Sometimes I don't know what the hell
I'm doing....and sometimes I do.
Sometimes I just want to scream
"FUCK!"....and sometimes I do.
Sometimes I just want to walk
away from it all.  But I can't do that.
I might get lost....and sometimes I do.

Hypocrite (New Poem) 2/16/12

What the hell am I doing?
I need to be out doing things instead of
sitting here in front of the computer.
What a fucking hypocrite.
Here I am sitting down in a chair, drinking wine,
listening to music, and looking at stuff on the computer.
While my butt and legs go numb (tingling feeling,
pins and needles). Damn it, I need to get up.
But it's three o' clock in the morning.
What's the point in getting up now.
I say to myself as I pour another glass of wine.

Star Wars: Episode One in 3D (Mini-Blog Essay)

Darth Maul
A few days ago I saw "The Phantom Menace" in 3-D.  It was awesome.  Although it is not my favorite "Star Wars" movie the 3-D version did make the movie much more enjoyable to watch.  They did change thank goodness the puppet Yoda in the original version with a much better CGI Yoda so it now looks normal again.  However Jar-Jar Binks is still annoying as ever and the Pod race drags on and on and just seeing Anakin as a young boy saying things like "Yippee" and stuff like that is still a little different, but I realize that you have to start somewhere.
If you look past all the slight complaints I will say that the 3-D effects blend in well with the movie.  Things seem to have more depth to it (well duh, isn't that the whole point) yes but some movies are in 3-D just to be in 3-D or to show off some kind of gimmick.  "The Phantom Menace" in 3-D just adds something more to the whole movie experience.  Certain scenes in the movie are just brilliant to watch and you get that "Oooooh-Aahhh" feeling while watching it.  I noticed when Darth Maul is on screen they added some new background music kind of like a fierce or menacing (pun intended) chanting like sound which I thought was great.  Overall it was really cool to watch "The Phantom Menace" in 3-D, I can't wait for the other movies in the saga to come out.  Out of all the movies coming out in 3-D recently  the "Star Wars" movies are perfect for this kind of format.  So if you haven't seen it yet go ahead and make some plans to see it before it's too late.

Epiphany (New Poem) 2/6/12

Another epiphany.
Another chance to make it happen....this time.
Time to break out of the old habits of familiar
excuses and worn out rants and ramblings.
Time to make things fun and less complicated.
Time to dream again.
Time to wake up again.
The time is now again.
Or is this just another empty promise
disguised as another epiphany....again.

Ego (New Poem) 2/3/12

It's not about me anymore.
Let that part go.
The e-g-o.
Is that even possible?
Yes, I think so.
Oops, I meant to say.
Yes, yes it is possible.
Remember there is no "I" in ego.
If it was then it would be spelled like "i-g-o" and that just doesn't sound right does it.

Wake Up And Plug In (New Poem) 1/30/12

Wake up and plug in.
Electronic devices and the comfort of
home need to be set aside for awhile.
We need to get away from the automatic
and daily routines of our computer age lives.
Right now we need to physically get up and
step away from the computer screen.
Yes, right now.
Then all we have to do is step outside.
It's time to get out of the house
and into the world....repeat often.

Man, I'm Tired (New Poem) 1/21/12

An island of pillows.
Waves of fluffy comforters and cozy sheets.
Nice and soft.
A bed is like a big warm hug from the sun....enjoy!
Close your eyes and sleep, sleep, sleep.
